Fans were treated to a fantastic finish in Thursday’s $11,000 Preferred 2 for trotters at Flamboro Downs as three-horses were lapped on one another in the evening’s featured affair.
Ole Jack Magic used his closings skills to lock up a narrow win for driver Scott Young and trainer Jerry Duford.
Young gained the pocket spot with Ole Jack Magic, and they were treated to a sweet trip behind Delcrest Massy. She laid down fractions of :28.1, :58.2 and 1:28, but she couldn’t quite last on the lead. Ole Jack Magic gunned her down late with a :29.1 final frame. Euro Classic was the runner-up, with Delcrest Massy settling for the show dough. The time for the mile was 1:57.3.
Sent off as the 4-5 favourite, the five-year-old son of Kadabra-Whitesand Electra potted his seventh win of the season and the 14th win of his career. The homebred has banked more than $280,000 to date for Home Stretch Holdings Inc of Rockwood, Ont.
Tortola Sunrise used a similar trip to win the $7,500 Preferred 3 for trotters for the MacDonalds. Anthony guided the gelding, who is trained by his wife, Amy, to the narrow decision over Seeyou Men in 2:00.2. Summit City Nate took home third prize in the seven-horse affair.
The four-year-old son of Muscle Massive-Weather Bird is now a six-time winner this year for owner Darryl Newbigging of Komoka, Ont. The win also pushed his lifetime earnings over $100,000.
Thursday’s card also featured five divisions of the Alliance Series for male pacers. There were three splits for $12,500 conditioned claimers and a set of divisions for $6,500 claimers.
The event for conditioned claimers saw Littlebitofabrat (2:00.4), Podge (2:00.3) and Overthinkenit (2:01) win their respective $5,400 divisions.
The claiming divisions – each worth $4,400 – went to Casimir Low Gear (1:58.3) and Julio Lauxmont (2:01.1)
