It was four straight cases of ‘close, but no cigar’ for Kiss Dont Bite in the $18,000 Fillies & Mares Open Pace at Dover Downs before she finally broke through for a winning effort in Monday’s edition of the top class for distaffers.
The Eric Ell-trained Kiss Dont Bite got away seventh for driver Victory Kirby while Inittowinafortune shot to the front and sliced out splits of :26.1, :55.1 and 1:22.4 before giving way. Kiss Dont Bite was on the move at the half, and she tracked cover from third over until making a three-wide move at the three-quarter pole. She used :28-second closing speed to grab the lead and then fend off a late rush from the odds-on favourite, For The Ladies N, in 1:51.2. Third prize went to Handsoffmycookie.
Sent off at odds of 7-1, the five-year-old daughter of Four Starzzz Shark-Kiss Me Once Again improved her 2014 record to 5-4-2 from 17 starts while pushing her lifetime earnings to $294,984 with the win. In The Red LLC of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania owns the 10-time winner.
