The Magic Moment rushed to an early lead and took his opponents all the way to win the $11,000 Horses and Geldings Preferred Pace at Flamboro Downs on Sunday, Dec. 14.
Starting from post three, The Magic Moment made the front uncontested for Garrett Rooney and was alone on the lead through :27.3, :56.3, and 1:25.4 fractions with Self Made (Austin Sorrie) on his back and Batterup Hanover (Jason Ryan) plugging along first-over from five-eighths. Those two closed on either side of the pacesetter down the lane, but the sophomore dug in to resist his two older foes and prevail in 1:55.1. Self Made reached up for second over Batterup Hanover.
The Magic Moment, a son of Control The Moment-Wind River Cat, tallied the 12th victory of his three-year-old season in 19 starts for owners Gestion A&A Belanger Inc. and Cynthia Cote Dupont of Shawinigan, Que. The two-time Quebec champion, trained by Francis Guillemette, is now 15-for-24 lifetime with earnings of $138,130. He paid $8.50 to win.
