Woodbine invader Rubis Prescott ($4.60) overcame her outside post assignment and wore down rail leader Twenty Three Red for the victory in Wednesday evening's featured $10,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred 2 Handicap at Flamboro Downs.
Brad Forward joined forces with the Mach Three-Reunion mare for the first time and secured an early three-hole leaving out from post eight. The Dean Nixon trainee was then flushed out heading in front of the grandstand and pursued Twenty Three Red (:28.2, :58.1, 1:27) during the final lap before collaring her at the wire to win in 1:56.4. Cant Stop closed inside off a pocket trip to finish third.
Rubis Prescott has now earned back-to-back wins and boasts a seasonal summary of 7-12-6 from 43 starts with an annual income of $123,360. Lifetime, the six-year-old mare has won 20 times while banking $342,020 for ICR Racing of Pefferlaw, Ont.
Sent postward as the 6-5 favourite, Rubis Prescott paid $4.60 to win.
Other highlights on the Wednesday night card include Cougar Gal scoring her fifth straight victory in the $8,500 fillies and mares claiming class with Travis Henry driving for trainer Carmen Auciello and owner Robbie McNeill, and Stormont Jubilee posting a 27-1 upset in the Alliance Trotting Series for driver/trainer Bruce Richardson and co-owner Joseph Coffey.
