Prize Art prevailed in Saturday’s $24,000 Preferred Pace at the Meadowlands, and he did so as the longest shot on the toteboard in the six-horse affair.

Hall of Famer Ron Pierce was content to sit fourth with the three-year-old son of Party At Artsplace, who watched Boulder Creek click off a :27.2 opening panel followed by Noble Falcon’s half-mile interval of :55.2.

Pierce angled Prize Art off the rail in the backstretch and engaged race favourite Noble Falcon around the final turn. Prize Art seized command turning for home and fended off all challengers from the backfield. He stopped the clock in 1:51.1 en route to defeating runner-up Boulder Creek and third-place finisher Shark Gesture.

Ronnie Roberts conditions the 14-time winner for partners Melinda Remley of Evansville, WI and Alice Roberts of Grant Park, IL. The gelding, who was purchased for $1,700 from the Illinois Classic Yearling Sale, has banked $128,538 to date.
