Major League N had her fastball dialed in on Thursday (Dec. 12) at Flamboro Downs, leading every step of the way to take the $12,000 Filly and Mare Preferred Pace which highlighted the nine-race card.
Leaving from post two in the scratched down field of four, driver Ed Hensley floored the accelerator for the outset, sprinting 5-1/2 lengths clear on the lead to the quarter pole in :28.2. The lead was four lengths for Major League N at the halfway point in :58.1 before Travis Cullen moved the 1-5 favourite, Shoot The Whiskey, from third and into second in pursuit of the leader at three-quarters in 1:26.4.
On the final turn, Shoot The Whiskey closed the gap to the Hensley helmet before tipping from the pocket for the stretch drive. The two slugged it out in the lane, with Major League N digging in to fend off Shoot The Whiskey by a neck on the wire in 1:55.1. Speaker Nancy finished third, 10 lengths back of the top two finishers.
The victory was the fourth straight for Major League N and ninth of 2024 through 26 seasonal outings. Ed Hensley co-owns the daughter of Gotta Go Cullen-Candlestick Park along with trainer Ashleigh Hensley. A 46-time career winner, Major League N has banked $67,272 this season and over $425,000 for her career.
Drivers Travis Henry, Travis Cullen and Austin Sorrie combined to take seven of the eight additional races on the card, with Henry driving three winner, while Cullen and Sorrie each scored doubles. Jodie Cullen led all trainers with a double on the evening.
