The winner’s circle for Monday’s Preferred events at The Raceway at Western Fair District was paved with ‘gold’.
Rainbow Gold was a coast-to-coast winner in the $7,500 Preferred 3 for trotters. Alfie Carroll put the gelding on the lead from Post 4 and they led the group through fractions of :29.2, 1:00.3 and 1:30.3 before kicking home in :30.2 to win by a neck over P C Dream Ticket in 2:01. LMC Marshmellow was third.
Ashleigh Duford trains the nine-year-old son of Thunder Road-Incredible Gold for Dennis Duford of Dresden, Ont. The homebred is a 43-time winner with earnings in excess of $230,000.
Goldstar Badlands took a page out of Rainbow Gold’s playbook and manufactured a gate-to-wire score of his own in the $7,500 Preferred 3 for horse and gelding pacers. Scott Young marched the gelding to the lead from the rail and together they zipped through panels of :28.1, :58.2 and 1:26.3 before sealing the deal with a :29.1 closing quarter. Goldstar Badlands was 4-1/4 lengths better than Dutch Seelster in 1:55.4. Hussys Blue Boy was third.
Sent off as the 8-5 favourite, the Heather Toll trainee posted the victory for owner Morley Bradshaw of Wilsonville, Ont. It was the 20th lifetime score for the career winner of $154,066.
Monday’s card also featured the opening leg of the Alliance Series for filly and mare claiming pacers.
Winning their respective $4,400 divisions were Mighty Mouse (2:01.1), Imnotamirage (2:01), Thaline (2:02.1) and Shes Deadly (2:01).
