According to a report, officials behind a push to erect a multi-purpose facility in upstate New York that would include live harness racing have received a $750,000 subsidy from the state.
The news comes courtesy of an article by The Post-Standard, which explains that the group behind Central New York Raceway Park was also awarded a $2-million state grant two years ago.
The report states that the grant ‘is intended to help the facility's developers continue infrastructure investments, including environmental studies, wetland mitigation and access to Interstate 81.’ Also, according to the article, the grants would not be provided until the group meets certain commitments.
The article states that Glenn Donnelly, a dirt racing motorsport entrepreneur, is the head of the investment group behind the project. In addition to live harness racing over synthetic dirt, the facility would also play host to motor racing over a 2.2-mile paved course and would feature snowmobile racing, as well.
The group has applied for a license to conduct live harness racing, which, according to Donnelly, would take place during the months of March, April, November and December.
The report states that the facility's grandstand would include a 350-seat restaurant, a banquet room, VIP suites, an observation deck, a full television and radio production studio, a parking garage, offices, and a track control tower.
