Exhibition Park Raceway's leading driver, Gilles Barrieau, worked out a perfect pocket trip aboard Slim N Sleek to capture the $1,400 Winners Over Pace as temperatures dipped to -10 degrees in Saint John, New Brunswick on Saturday afternoon
.
With Melodys Cookie Boy scratched due to track conditions, the field for this week’s top pace was reduced to five. Last week's winner, Perfect Trick and driver Stephen Trites, carved out the fractions of :30.2, 1:00.3 and 1:30.4 before being collared by Slim N Sleek in the stretch. Barrieau sent the odds on favourite first up from third after the opening quarter and then tucked into the pocket. Slim N Sleek then used a :29.3 final frame to pull off a three-quarter length score in 2:00.3 over a track rated 'good' and three seconds off.
Perfect Trick stayed for second with Vic Victor (Lonny Stokes) gapped back in third.
The four-year-old daughter of Cammibest-Starlite N Velvet improved her seasonal record to 11-8-4 in 40 starts and lifted her earnings to $16,614 for trainer Rosaire Barrieau and owner Maurice Allain of Memramcook, N.B. Lifetime, Slim N Sleek has accumulated 14 wins and earnings totaling $30,302.
