Damages are estimated in the hundreds of thousands of dollars after a fire on Friday at Brantford, Ont. area standardbred nursery Zorgwijk Stables
.
"Certainly it's a substantial loss to the owners but we were able to save the neighbouring buildings, the horses and property," Brant County Fire Chief Paul Boissonneault told the Brantford Expositor. "When you have a fire load that hot and fast it could have been much worse."
Zorgwijk is the home of stallions Southwind Lustre and Armbro Ricochet.

PEOPLE IN THE HORSE INDUSTRY
PEOPLE IN THE HORSE INDUSTRY DO NOT KNOW THE FULL STORY ABOUT THE FIRE AT ZORGWIJK STABLES. MIND YOU THE FIRE WAS A GREAT LOSE TO THE OWNERS OF THE BREADING FARM,BUT PEOPLE DO NOT KNOW WHAT THE FARM MANAGER LES MCNEILL AND HIS FAMILY LOST IN THIS FIRE. LES AND HIS FAMILY HAD A LOT OF THEIR PERSONAL THINGS STORED AT ZORGWIJK STABLES. THEY WERE IN THE PROCESS OF MOVING INTO THEIR NEW HOME. SOME OF THE THINGS THAT WERE LOST CAN NEVER BE REPLACED. THERE WERE PICTURES AND VIDEOS OF THEIR CHILDREN GROWING UP, KEEP SAKES FROM DEAR FRIENDS AND FAMILY MEMBERS THAT HAVE PASSED AWAY. THESE WERE TREASURES THAT CAN NEVER BE REPLACED. SO PEOPLE IN THE HORSE INDUSTRY IF YOU HAVE A KIND WORD TO SAY ABOUT THE FIRE TO THE OWNERS OF THE BREADING FARM DON'T FORGET TO SAY A KIND WORD TO LES AND HIS FAMILY I THINK THEY LOST A LOT MORE.
