Ara You Crazy was responsible for an 11-1 upset in the $8,300 conditioned claiming feature at Flamboro Downs on Wednesday, Dec. 10, sliding up the passing lane for a late victory.

Paul MacKenzie tucked Ara You Crazy in behind Tellit Russ Tellit (Travis Cullen), securing the pocket through :29.3, 1:01.1, and 1:29.2 fractions over a good surface. After sustaining pressure from Ambitious Mind (Austin Sorrie) to three-quarters, the leader then came under fire from favourite Onyx Bovino (Jay Harris), who pulled three-wide turning for home and swooped past Tellit Russ Tellit at the top of the lane. But Ara You Crazy emerged at the cones, and the gelding rushed up the inside to beat Onyx Bovino by a half-length in 2:00.1. Ambitious Mind finished third.

Ara You Crazy, a five-year-old son of Jk Royal Flush-Daylon Ara, took his third win since shipping to Ontario from British Columbia earlier this year. He made his provincial debut in October for MacKenzie of Carlisle, Ont., who trains the gelding and shares ownership with Melissa Rennie of Charlottetown, P.E.I. The victory was Ara You Crazy’s 14th in 67 career outings, and it raised his earnings to $77,960. He paid $25 to win.
