There was no shortage of early speed in Friday’s $10,500 Fillies and Mares Open for pacers at Fraser Downs, and that played right into the wheelhouse of race favourite Phone Terror who parlayed a patient approach into a 1:55.1 score.
Trainer/driver Serge Masse got away fourth with Phone Terror, and together they watched Part Time Lady and Jet Hot Stuff battle through first-half fractions of :27 and :55.3. Masse moved Phone Terror in the third quarter, and they had no problem rushing to the lead and wheeling the field past the three-quarter pole in 1:25. A :30.1 closing quarter was more than enough for Phone Terror to win by a length over Goldies Mach in 1:55.1. Part Time Lady faded to finish a well-beaten third.
Lucy Raymond of Edmonton, AB owns Phone Terror, a seven-year-old daughter of Western Terror-Miss Lex. The distaffer nabbed her fourth win of the year and the 44th of her career. She’s banked just shy of $470,000 to date.
