A 33-1 shot Vicki Gram got up to win the $26,000 Open trot while Ruffled Tux won for the third straight time in the feature pace at Dover Downs on a rainy Wednesday. The sports leading driver Tony Morgan collected four more wins.
Race favorite Joey The Jet JT and driver Tony Morgan escaped from being locked in at the three-quarters, moved three wide at the head of the lane and appeared on the way to catching the leaders in deep stretch when Art Stafford Jr. ushered longshot Vicki Gram between horses and reached the finish line a long nose in front of Joey The Jet JT. Vicki Gram, the only mare in the eight-horse field, won for the eighth time this season for owner trainer Art Stafford. The Valley Victor-Carol Gram seven-year-old has now won $127,540 this year. Go Nano Go (Eddie Davis Jr.) was third.
Ruffled Tux continued to step up the classification ladder rolling to an impressive 1:52.3 victory in the $11,900 Male pace. It was the third win in a row for the grey Lislea gelding from the standout racemare White Ruffles. Tony Morgan drove the winner to a lifetime record for Erica Hanley, trainer Dylan Davis and Warren Racing Stable. Kiai Diam N (Sean Bier) finished second with Mythicalconnection (Jason Lynch) the show horse.
With mandatory retirement only three weeks away, 14-year-old Stormont Northstar splashed down the passing lane to score a 2:00 victory in a $7,200 conditioned trot with Eddie Davis Jr. at the controls. The win was the 72nd of his career. The altered son of Brisco Hanover went over the $600,000 mark in lifetime earnings wit his 72nd career victory. Trainer Bob Stevenson and his teenage grandson Eric Davis owned the winner. Promptly (G.Dennis) finished second with Bankers Lane (Ron Hall) third.
