Sarah Bruce of Truro, Nova Scotia closes the year as the December photographer for the I Love Canadian Harness Racing Fan Club’s Heart of Harness Racing Calendar.
She captured this endearing photo of her nine-year-old mare Just Lovely turned out at Truro Raceway and enjoying some winter fun in the snow.
“She loves being turned out, especially in the snow, she loves to run, buck, and roll with some of her barn mates,” explained Sarah. “She’s pretty special to me, she won me my first cooler, winning the final of the Wilson’s Home Heating Filly & Mares Series in 2015, and you could usually count on her to bring her ‘A’ game every time she stepped out to race.”
Bruce works full-time at Fundy Textile and Design, however, when she isn’t at the office you can find her working with her husband Nick White at their stable located at Truro Raceway.
“I was only introduced to harness racing 11 years ago when I moved to Truro for school, now I help run a stable of three to eight horses at a time. I jog, train and own horses myself, and love every aspect of the sport!”
Between her full-time job and working at her husband’s stable, it can be difficult for Sarah to find free time, but when she has it, she enjoys taking pictures of the horses when they are racing or just having some fun in the paddock.
This is the first time that Sarah has had one of her photos featured in the calendar.
