Starsel was in command from the start in a 1:55.3 victory in the $27,000 Open Handicap Trot on Wednesday, Dec. 1 at Dover Downs.

Daryl Bier got Starsel away quickly to take the front and play follow-the-leader the rest of the mile recording his third win of the year in the week’s feature trot. Glen DelRusso, Charles Dombeck and trainer-driver Bier own the seven-year-old Angus Hall-Super Sally gelding, who now has earned $47,645 this year and $664,762 in his career. Lira Vita, driven by Corey Callahan, went a tough trip challenging the winner for much of the last half mile and finished second ending a three-race win streak. Nordic Venture closed well for Vince Copeland for third money.

Yankee Fortysix and Ross Wolfenden came zooming from far back to overtake Charger (Ron Pierce), who had assumed the lead turning for home to score a 1:53.1 victory in the $10,000 male pace. Bonnie Benson owns Yankee Fortysix, a consistent altered son of Artiscape-Kikipell, winner of his fourth race and $114,630 in 2010. McCabe Hall (Brad Hanners) hustled down the lane to finish third.

Dreamluck scored a 1:54.1 triumph in a Delaware Male $20,000 Claiming Allowance pace. Vic Kirby drove the winner for owners Wade and Kathy Wyatt. In My Element (Ross Wolfenden) was runner-up with Marks Pacific (Tom Jackson) third.
