With the provincial liberal government's recent appointment of progressive conservative Paul Godfrey as chairman of the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp., Toronto councillor Rob Ford (Ward 2, Etobicoke North) has let it be known what he thinks the move

means.

An article today by the Toronto Sun quotes Ford as saying that he believes the appointment "means the path will finally be cleared for Toronto to get a casino."

The report also cites OLG spokesman Ruri Brum as saying that the existing slots gaming area at Woodbine Racetrack -- which is already home to over 2,000 slot machines -- is planning on accompanying another 1,000 machines.

Godfrey's appointment into the role of OLG chair is currently under review, with a decision expected in early 2010, but Ford has opined that he believes the move can be looked at as a green light for casino expansion in the city, possibly at the Woodbine Live! expansion set for Woodbine Racetrack.

"It's a good project and a great location," Ford said.
