A full field of 10 went behind the gate for the $25,000 Open Handicap Trot on Wednesday (Nov. 9) at Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway, and Kings County did not disappoint as the even-money favourite.
Driven by Brett Miller, the six-year-old son of Muscle Hill eased his way to the top. Although two-wide through the :27.3 opening quarter, Kings County gained control of the field without hesitation. Never looking back, Kings County posted the remaining fractions in :55.4 and 1:24.1 before stopping the clock in 1:53.1. Lockbox was second with Rose Run Valor finishing third.
The victory marked the 10th win of the season for Kings County. With lifetime earnings just south of $449,000, the horse has hit the board 19 of 30 starts this year. Stacey Van Huizen conditions Kings County for Thestable Kings County group.
Live racing will resume Thursday (Nov. 10) at Dayton Raceway with first post at 4 p.m. (EST).
