Gateway Casinos and Entertainment, which was planning to move its casino operation out of Western Fair District, has extended its lease at the London, Ont. venue with intentions to remain long term and expand its existing footprint, according to a local news report.
“We have extended our lease at the Western Fair District,” Grant Darling, senior vice president of operations at Gateway Casinos Ontario, was quoted as saying in a report by CTV News London. “We are currently working on our future development plans for Gateway Casinos London that will see us expand our existing footprint to allow for the addition of our award-winning signature Gateway food & beverage brands and improved gaming experiences."
Gateway Casinos had announced in December 2018 that it had leased land on Wonderland Road in order to relocate its casino operation, a decision that had put the future of live harness racing at Western Fair in jeopardy. Rezoning was approved by City Council the following summer but work at the property stalled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
