Ace Bi ($12.60) and Vegas Rocks ($6.30) parlayed comfortable stalking trips into victories in their respective $9,200 Not Listed Preferred events on Sunday night (Nov. 8) at Rideau Carleton Raceway.
In the evening's trotting feature, Marc Camirand's Ace Bi and trainer-driver Pierre Bovay established third-over cover in an outer flow led by LMC Mass Gem (Jacques Beaudoin) on approach to a :58.1 half. After LMC Mass Gem duelled to the lead and wore down early pacesetter Capteur De Reve (Jonathan Lachance), Ace Bi fanned wide off his cover and lifted to a 1:57 victory, his sixth of the season. Runner-up Mr Contestant (Stephane Brosseau) was outkicked for home by three-quarters of a length; LMC Mass Gem finished third.
The evening's top pace saw Vegas Rocks ride the pocket to his fifth win of the season. Stephane Brosseau kept the pocket closed behind early pacesetter Avatar J (Guy Gagnon) through a :27 first quarter and rode tightly behind through middle splits of :56 and 1:24.2 before making his move on the final turn. With three-sixteenths to go, Brosseau angled the eight-year-old Rocknroll Hanover gelding out of the pocket to overhaul Avatar J and evade Kwik Talkin (Rodney LaFramboise) by 2-1/4 lengths in 1:54. National Debt (Lachance) finished third.
Mandy Archer trains Vegas Rocks for Rachel Archer, Dean Larkin and Jody Sanderson.
Guy Gagnon notched a training hat trick on the 10-race card, teaming up with driver Pierre Desjardins to take the opener with Hldontghttoyurdrms ($76.30, 1:59) before then guiding Luke And Duke ($3.40, 1:53.1) and Big Petes Style ($9.30, 1:55.3) to victory.
