Announcer Gary Guy said it best in the Thursday night feature at Flamboro Downs when at the head of the stretch in the $11,500 Preferred 2 & 3 Trot he stated, "Willyorwonthe? That's the question and April Rose is trying to answer it."
April Rose did answer it, but it wasn't the reply Willyorwonthe wanted to hear.
Saddled with the outermost post seven, driver Ed Hensley gave favoured April Rose marching orders off the gate and she was able to pocket up behind second choice Willyorwonthe (Ryan Holliday), who carved out fractions of :28, :57.4 and 1:27.2 while holding all rivals at bay. Turning for home, Hensley angled April Rose to the two path instead of waiting for the passing lane and took aim at the frontrunner. The $5,750 question posed by Guy of Willyorwonthe was answered in the final strides as April Rose powered past for the half-length score over Willyorwonthe with Azucar (Scott Coulter) completing the top three.
Hensley co-owns April Rose (SJs Caviar - Show Me The Bling) along with wife-trainer Ashleigh Hensley of Dundas, Ont. Now six, April Rose continues to improve as this campaign has been her best yet in terms of wins (12) and earnings ($101,510). In 130 lifetime starts, April Rose boasts 26 tallies along with purse earnings exceeding $341,000.
