Take It Back Terry did his damage inside Saturday night, winning Yonkers Raceway’s $40,000 Open Handicap Pace.
After pole-assigned E Z Noah (Brent Holland)—himself chased along to catch gate—stuffed everyone in behind, Take It Back Terry, from post position five, and Mach it So (Jason Bartlett), were nestled second and third, respectively.
E Z Noah led through intervals of :27, :55.3 and 1:23.1 before Mach It So took his shot. E Z Noah maintained a short lead into the lane, but Take It Back Terry and driver George Brennan had a rare rendezvous with the passing lane and went by. The final margin was a length in a season’s-best 1:50.3. E Z Noah held second, with Mach It So finishing third.
For Take It Back Terry, a six-year-old Western Terror gelding co-owned (as Burke Racing) by (trainer) Ron Burke, Weaver Bruscemi, Larry Karr and Phil Collura, it was his 12th win in 28 seasonal tries. He paid $2.30.
Brennan’s pair of wins Saturday raised his career number to 8,997.
