'Lilac' Repeats For Charity Campaign

The generous pacing mare Barona Lilac is off to a perfect start in her Cheering For Charity campaign for the Bible Hill Kinsmen as she notched her second straight victory this month in Truro Raceway's top class.

In the afternoon's $1,375 Winners Over pacing feature, even-money favourite Barona Lilac tracked Gerries Beach throughout the mile and then prevailed from the pocket by a quarter-length in 1:59.3 for trainer/driver Darren Crowe. Dontstandinmyway finished third.

The five-year-old Ameripan Gigolo mare has now won half of her 26 starts this year, all in the name of charity.

Barona Lilac has supported a different local charity each month since arriving in Truro with her on-track efforts in the Meridian Farms-sponsored campaign, including Bible Hill Volunteer Fire Brigade, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colchester, Stewiacke Valley 4H, Boys and Girls Club of Truro, Maggie's Place, and Harness the Cure.
