Returning to the races after more than five months off, Waasmula defeated a field of high end conditioned mares in the fastest mile of the Friday night card at Woodbine Racetrack.
Gapped off the gate early on, the six-year-old daughter of Million Dollar Cam later stormed home from the backfield to prevail in 1:51.3 and spark a $24.80 win payout. Sophomore filly Beach Gal came on for second over Marlee B, who had taken the lead past the half.
Waasmula's last pari-mutuel race was on May 23 in Mohawk's Mares Preferred class where she finished less than a length behind winner Voelz Hanover in third-place. Her comeback victory on Friday was her fifth of the year in 17 starts and the lion's share of the $25,000 purse pushed her seasonal bankroll to $76,600.
The $500,000-plus career earner is owned and bred by Brent Vincent and trained by Bruce Goit.
Trevor Henry engineered the winning trip aboard Waasmula and ended the night with three victories -- the most among drivers on the 11-race card.
