Southwind Vavoom lowered the boom on the eight foes he faced in Tuesday’s $15,000 Preferred Trot at Georgian Downs, and he did a number on the toteboard

, as well.

Sent off at odds of 13-1 for the father/son duo of trainer Lormer McClure and driver Bob McClure, Southwind Vavoom got away seventh in the featured event while Logans Hero and The Principle battled to the quarter pole in :27.3. Logans Hero had Adam T coming after him at the half in :56, and they continued to wage war along with a three-wide Watkins at the three-quarter pole in 1:25.

Southwind Vavoom, who lurked in the backfield for the first half of the contest, got underway in the third quarter before using a :29.3 final quarter to propel himself to the quarter-length triumph over Lexis D J in 1:55.1. Race favourite Watkins, who won the class last week, was a lapped-on third.

Georgetown, Ontario’s John McClure, the patriarch of the McClure clan, holds the ownership papers on the five-year-old son of Self Possessed-Vie Agra Works. The win improved the 17-time winner’s 2011 record to 6-2-4 in 19 starts, and the lion’s share of the purse boosted his career cash stash to $176,250.
