Chewey was a fast-closing third in last week’s $15,000 Preferred Trot at Western Fair Raceway, but in Tuesday’s follow-up effort in the top class for square gaiters he got all the marbles thanks his patented closing kick

.

With Stuart Sowerby at the controls, Chewey tracked cover before springing into action and drawing clear to win the richest event of the 12-card.

Long Ago shot to immediate command and laid down fractions of :28.1, :59.2 and 1:28.3. Zorgwijk Jock applied first-over pressure to the leader in the middle stages of the mile, with Chewey riding cover from second-over. Chewey made a three-wide brush coming out of the final turn and used a :29.2 final frame to win by 2-1/2 lengths over Zorgwijk Jock in 1:58.3. Long Ago faded late and had to settle for third prize.

Ed Galinski conditions the five-year-old son of Trainforthefuture-Marie Adonno for Kingfisher Farms of Seneca, ON. The win was the sixth of the season and the ninth lifetime tally for the career winner of $83,782. The 1:58.3 performance matched the trotter’s lifetime best.
