Willowtime shrugged off a first-quarter break and pushed on to victory in the $14,500 Preferred Trot at Flamboro Downs on Saturday, Nov. 7.
The gelding was following Insanity (Paul MacKenzie) off the first turn in pursuit of the lead but rolled off stride entering the backstretch and was pulled to the outside by Austin Sorrie. Once back on gait just past a :27.1 quarter, Willowtime rejoined the formation and grinded to command before the half in :56.2. He sprinted to three-quarters in 1:25.2, carving out a 2-3/4-length advantage, and kept clear of P P E (Brady Galliers) down the stretch to score by 1-3/4 lengths in 1:56.1. Oh Boy (Brett MacDonald) finished third.
Willowtime tallied his sixth win of the season in 27 starts for trainer Herb Holland and owner Vincenzo Strangis of Toronto, Ont. The five-year-old son of Lookslikeachpndale-Sos Respect is now 16-for-76 lifetime with $620,863 in earnings. He paid $5.20 to win.
