Canadian connections made a sizable splash in the 2018 Harrisburg Yearling Sale, with buyers north of the 49th parallel accounting for a quartet of horses which sold for at least $250,000 each, including the second and fourth highest priced yearlings to pass through the sales ring over the three-day event.
Clark Beelby of Campbellville, Ont. purchased the royally-bred Krickan from agent Concord Stud Farm. The New Jersey-eligible trotting filly, by Trixton and out of 2004 O'Brien Award winner Solveig, is a half-sister to double millionaire and multiple Dan Patch Award winner Shake It Cerry and millionaire Uncle Lasse.
Marvin Katz and Brixton Medical of Toronto teamed up to buy Hello Tomorrow for $380,000 from Fair Winds Farm. The Pennsylvania-eligible filly by Muscle Hill is the ninth foal of Armbro Deja Vu and a half-sister to world champion Dejarmbro.
Bramasole Hanover, a full sister to two-time O'Brien Award winner Caprice Hill, was not only the jointly third-highest priced yearling among Canadian purchases at $250,000, but also the highest-grossing Ontario-sired yearling. The daughter of Kadabra and Bramasole was purchased by Determination of Montréal from Hanover Shoe Farms.
Determination shelled out $200,000 to Concord Stud Farm for another Kadabra yearling in Field Gunner. The third foal of Ilia is a half-brother to stakes winners Long Tom and Tight Lines.
Canadian interests spent $7,912,000 on 192 yearlings.
In all, 172 Ontario-sired yearlings commanded a total of $5,667,000, for an average purchase price of $32,948. Of Ontario-based stallions, progeny of Kadabra averaged $60,929 to lead trotting sires, while Bettors Delight's 36 yearlings averaged $44,833 to lead pacers.
