While falling just short in the featured $7,500 Preferred 3 Trot on Monday night at The Raceway at Western Fair District, favoured Summit City Nate still delivered on his pari-mutuel promise.
Settled into fourth early for driver Alfie Carroll, Summit City Nate was towed up into contention by Myretirementticket (Ross Battin) and tipped off that rival's cover for a three-wide bid around the final turn. These two hit the wire almost in unison with Myretirementticket a head in front in 1:59.2 However, judges ruled Myretirementticket went inside two consecutive plyons going into the first turn and was lapped on at the finish. That ruling resulted in a placing to second and a bump up of Summit City Nate from second to first.
Victor Puddy trains four-year-old Summit City Nate (Justice Hall-Even Dozen) for Keith Cassell of Smiths Falls, Ont., Dr. John Tobin of Elgin, Ont. and Limco Inc. of Chateauguay, Que. That's the third win of the season in 32 tries for Summit City Nate, with each win coming at the Preferred 3 class.
The hot starting spot in London on Monday night was post four, with five of the evening's winners starting from that position on the gate.
