Collingwood Votes Against Slots Expansion

Collingwood Town Council has voted 5-4 against a motion which could have led to the introduction of 300 slot machines to the Georgian Manor Resort. The vote occurred on Monday, November 5, and the resort's president, Peter Levoy, has characterized the result as a "lost opportunity" for the town.

A report on theenterprisebulletin.com has stated that Levoy left council chambers right after the vote.

Under the motion, the resort would have been the centrepiece of an expansion which in addition to the slots-gaming parlour would have featured a 400-seat performing arts facility.

According to the article, the issue is not so straight forward behind the scenes, as 'the municipality is a signatory to a memorandum of understanding between the four municipalities that obliges them to undertake a common approach with the goal of submitting a joint proposal to the OLG, and to develop a formula to share the revenues.'
