There was action throughout Monday’s $9,400 Preferred 3 for horse and gelding pacers at The Raceway at Western Fair District, and when the dust settled it was Colorado Buck who rallied to take the checkered flag in the featured affair.

In rein to Garrett Rooney, Colorado Buck found his way into the pocket spot while Cullen Keefe N sprinted to the lead and whacked out fractions of :28, :57.3 and 1:27.3. He felt first-over pressure from Reel through the middle stages of the mile, and Reel eventually worked his way to the lead before watching it slip away. Colorado Buck found late clearance and used his closing kick to win by three-quarters of a length over Mercenary in a time of 2:05.1 for the contest at the distance of 1-1/16 miles. Reel wound up taking home the show dough in the nine-horse affair.

Douglas Schweitzer of West Lorne, Ont. owns and trains the eight-year-old son of Rambaran-Glenmount Allison. The victory was his third of the season and the 20th of his career. The classy campaigner has banked just shy of $115,000 to date.
