Thirteen is considered by many a very unlucky number, but thirteen is fine in the books of trainer Ben Wallace and driver Doug McNair.
That duo joined forces to win Saturday’s $25,000 feature pace at Mohawk Racetrack with Easy Lover Hanover, who notched his 13th win of the season while extending his winning streak to four in a row in the process.
Easy Lover Hanover in his quest for the Grand Slam got away fourth while Alexas Jackpot fired to the front and served up wild fractions of :26.3, :54.3 and 1:21.4. McNair angled his charge first-over on the way to the half, and after chipping away in the middle stages of the mile the gelding used a :27.2 closing quarter to win by 2-1/2 lengths over Nirvana Seelster in 1:50.2. Alexas Jackpot faded to finish third.
Brad Grant of Milton, Ont. owns the three-year-old son of Somebeachsomewhere-Easy Go Go. The pacer improved this year’s record to 13-3-2 from 28 trips to the track and his seasonal earnings climbed to $181,172.
