Martys Charm, a fan favourite at The Meadows who has struggled with injuries for two seasons, showed that he’s all the way back when he made up seven lengths to capture Monday’s $22,500 Winners Over $10,000 Life/Preferred Handicap Pace.
Unraced at two and three, Martys Charm went on to become an elite performer for owners Martha and Gerald Baluck and trainer Paul Corey, soaring over $400,000 in career earnings with Monday’s victory. But the eight-year-old Aces N Sevens-Bets Mae gelding managed only nine starts last year and 18 so far in 2012.
He beat a good Winners Over field last week and was even sharper Monday for Randy Tharps, following the live cover of American Rage to down that rival by a head. Early leader Something For Doc saved show. Eric Ledford drove four winners and Dave Palone three on the 16-race card.
