Tattoo Artist, winner of the 2023 Canadian Pacing Derby, will be standing at stud in 2024.

Co-owner Eric Cherry announced on Saturday, Nov. 4 that Tattoo Artist will stand stud in New Jersey at Deo Volente Farms next year.

A son of Meadowlands Pace winner Hes Watching (p,3,1:46.4; $1,129,215) and out of Breeders Crown winner Stylish Artist (p,3,1:51; $940,022) by Artsplace, Tattoo Artist has raced at the top level from his two-year-old season through this year’s campaign as a six-year-old.

At two, he won three legs of the Ontario Sires Stakes Gold Series and the Super Final. He then followed with a championship year as a three-year-old with victories in the Simcoe, four legs of the OSS Gold Series, and a second place finish in the North America Cup.

As an older horse, Tattoo Artist captured numerous Invitationals and Opens. This year as a six-year-old, he won his elimination of the Breeders Crown, the Canadian Pacing Derby in 1:47.4 (:26.1) over Jug winner Bythemissal and Allywag Hanover as well as the Dayton Derby in 1:48.

Tattoo Artist has $3,214,408 earned from a record of 40-18-10 in 94 starts with a career mark of 1:47.1 taken at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

His stud fee is set at $10,000.

“I’ve had Tattoo Artist since he was a youngster and the fact that he’s in razor sharp form at age six after 94 starts is remarkable," says partnership spokesman Eric Cherry. “He has all the tools for a successful stallion career – durability, extreme early speed, soundness and grit. I plan on breeding many of my best broodmares to him."

Tentative plans are to finish his career with starts at Rosecroft in the Potomac Pace Invitational and TVG-Fanduel at The Meadowlands.
