Artrageous benefitted from a perfect drive by Art Stafford Jr. and upset at 58-1 in the $20,000 Mares Open Handicap on Wednesday night (Nov. 4) at Dover Downs.
My Last Bet and driver Montrell Teague were able to carve out fractions of :27.4, :56.4 and 1:24 uncontested. Valuable Art pulled first-over but could not reach the leader. Artful Dancer was second-over but could not gain any ground.
At the top of the stretch, Art Stafford Jr. pulled the pocket with Artrageous and won by 1-3/4 lengths in 1:52.1. Soho Burning Love A, the 1-2 favourite, was a victim of poor race positioning but charged home when driver Tim Tetrick was able to find clearance. Moments Of Joy was third.
Artrageous, a six-year-old daughter of Art Major, is owned by trainer Andrew Stafford in partnership with Bonnie Benson, John Johannsen and Holly Case. She paid $118.60 to win.
Tetrick won five races on the card.
