Summer Indian stormed to the lead from Post 7 and kept right on rolling, capturing Monday’s $20,000 Preferred Handicap Trot at The Meadows in 1:52.4, two ticks off the track’s all-age trotting record.
Dave Palone sent Summer Indian three wide to wrest the early lead from Trustworthy Kid, and the four-year-old Majestic Son-Touch Of Frost gelding easily held that rival at bay in the stretch, scoring by 1-1/2 lengths. Cantab Lindy finished third.
Ron Burke trains Summer Indian, who won for the 10th time in 21 starts this year and extended his career bankroll to $329,850 for Burke Racing Stable LLC, Jack Piatt III, Weaver Bruscemi LLC and RTC Stables.
Palone drove five winners — three for Burke — on the 15-race card while Mike Wilder enjoyed a triple.
