Stompin Tom Takes Woodbine By Storm

A full field consisting of 10 freshman pacing colts and geldings lined up behind the starting gate at Woodbine Racetrack on Monday for the lone $20,000 elimination of the Autumn Stakes, with the top nine finishers advancing to the final

Despite a couple of rough steps coming out of the final turn, Stompin Tom Creek punched his ticket to the final after rallying to a career-best clocking of 1:55 for driver Jody Jamieson and trainer Paul Taylor.

The son of Western Terror slid into the five-hole going into the opening turn while Big Bay Point sped the group past the first panel in a :27-second clip. He maintained the lead through fractions of :56.3 and 1:26.1 while under pressure from Stompin Tom Creek.

Big Bay Point succumbed to the pressure and Stompin Tom Creek drove away even though he got fumbly-gaited turning for home. Jamieson collected him up and the gelding responded and drew off to win by just over a length. Luckcamotion, who was last at the mid-way point, closed well to finish second and Sparky Mark, who made a break coming out of the final turn, recovered and rallied to finish third.

Glenview Livestock Ltd. of Wallenstein, Ontario owns Stompin Tom Creek, who now owns a 3-2-0 record in his first six kicks at the can. His bankroll currently sits at $19,820.

The top nine finishers from Monday’s elimination will advance to the $39,800 final of the Autumn Stakes on Monday, December 7 at Woodbine Racetrack.
