Wins have been tough to come by in recent weeks for the four-year-old Camluck mare Real Beauty, but she put forth a topnotch effort earlier today to take home top prize in the $17,000 Fillies and Mares Open Pace at Fraser Downs.
Today marked the third start for the mare in the stable of trainer David McKellar, who has to be pleased with the improvement she has shown during her three-race stay in his outfit.
Real Beauty was a disappointing sixth in her debut for McKellar, who guided her to a second-place finish in her follow-up attempt. She used a strong rally in the final half of today’s contest, with the end result being a four and three-quarter length score in a time of 1:54.3.
Furious Five and B Bar Marilyn, who were sent off as the co-favourites at odds of 3-2, finished second and third, respectively.
Real Beauty, who has stashed away almost $70,000 this season, now owns a 7-3-4 record from 20 starts in her 2008 campaign. She has banked in excess of $254,000 in her career.
