Kelly Hoerdt piloted three of his students to victory on the Thursday (Nov. 2) evening card at Fraser Downs to give himself a training triple. Of the triad, Century Mach topped the card with a gate-to-wire triumph in the featured $10,000 Fillies and Mares Preferred Handicap.
Century Mach coasted to the lead before putting up panels in :27, :56.4, and 1:25.4. Hottieonthehorizon (Jeffrey Hunt) flew home from mid-pack with a :28.4 last quarter and posed a threat to the leader, but Century Mach prevailed at the wire by a head in 1:55.1. Hottieonthehorizon took second and Mystic Shadow (Bradley Watt) rounded out the top three.
Hoerdt owns the five-year-old Jk Royal Flush mare as she grabbed her sixth victory of the season and 25th career tally. She boasts $176,648 in career earnings. Century Mach paid $5.00 to win from 2-1 odds as the second choice.
Came A Cavalier ($7.10) won by 2-3/4 lengths in 1:55.1 and Somepeopleneedtold ($3.70) won by 2-1/4 lengths in 1:55.2 to complete the trifecta of victories for driver/trainer Hoerdt.
