Off at 10-1, Veyron vaulted from the rear of the field to a 1:58 victory in the $8,500 Preferred 3 Trot at Flamboro Downs on Tuesday (Nov. 3).
Away seventh to a :28 first quarter, driver J Harris rolled Veyron to race first over into a :58.2 half and marched towards pacesetter Power And Grace moving to the backside. Veyron drew alongside Power And Grace by three-quarters in 1:27.4 but lost ground on the leader rounding the final turn. Into the stretch, Venus Duharas swung three wide and pressed for the lead late as Veyron continued to dig into Power Ang Grace. Veyron hit the finish a head in front of Venus Duharas while Power And Grace finished slightly behind in third.
A seven-year-old gelding by Muscles Yankee, Veyron won his fifth race from 27 starts this season and his 13th from 87 overall, earning $174,668. Paul Cameron conditions the $22.20 winner for owner TJs Stable.
I Wish You Well ground first over to a 1:55.1 victory in the $8,500 Fillies and Mares Preferred 3 Pace.
American Tour N, the 6-5 favourite, took command to a :27.2 opening quarter and held an unchallenged lead to a :57 half. Past the stands first time, driver Travis Henry angled I Wish You Well off the pylons and progressed uncovered to match strides with the leader past three-quarters in 1:25.3. From there the Anita Oullette trainee slid to the lead and maintained a one-and-a-half length advantage to the finish over Buttermilk Hanover, who rallied from second over for second. Manhattan Again, from third over, took third.
Owned by Luc Ouellette Incorporated and Alan Alber, I Wish You Well won her fifth race from 24 starts this season and her 18th from 97 overall, earning $255,519. The six-year-old Well Said mare paid $6.90 to win.
