"He Was My Childhood Idol"

Bruce Aldrich, Jr. is having a career season.

On Tuesday, November 2, the 41-year-old native of Brattleboro, Vt. added five more victories to his seasonal total at Monticello Raceway. His 362 wins at the track this year is currently 77 more than runner-up Billy 'Zeke' Parker, Jr., who has 285.

Barring any unforeseen circumstances Aldrich should cop the driving title at seasons end on December 31.

“Hey I’m not counting a victory before it the season is over,” Aldrich said, “because when Zeke is the one to beat, there are no sure things. I don’t care how much of a lead I might have. He is a 14-time champ here and he’s likely to win five or six races many times before we reach the finish line. He’s a great driver and he was my childhood idol.”

Though Aldrich is being cautious, his huge lead will be very hard to overcome, even if he didn’t drive another horse here this year.

“I’ve been lucky enough to get some live mounts and thankfully the horses in my barn just keep winning,” Aldrich said.

Aldrich’s victorious drives on Tuesday, November 2 were with Coastal Highway ($5.20), Waterfront Success ($15.20), Torero Hall ($4.30), Starfleets Fudge ($7.60) in 1:59:4 and Our Ian ($4.80).
