The $13,000 Preferred Handicap Trot at The Raceway at the Western Fair District was won with ease on Tuesday (Nov. 29) by a dominant Sizzlen Hot Herbie.
Scratched down to a field of six, Sizzlen Hot Herbie (Natasha Day) left from the far outside, accepting the pocket trip behind Tymal Houdini (Colin Kelly). Sizzlen Hot Herbie sat on Kelly's helmet through the :28.3 quarter before being flushed out of the pocket by a first-over Lass Shot (Garrett Rooney). They reached the half in :59.3 as Sizzlen Hot Herbie gave chase to the leading Tymal Houdini. As they approached the final turn and 1:29.1 third quarter, Day and Sizzlen Hot Herbie kicked it into high gear and took off on the rest of the field. The pair extended their lead on the pack in the stretch to cruise to an 8-1/4 length victory in 1:59. Lass Shot finished second and Massive Profit (Scott Coulter) rounded out the triactor.
Sizzlen Hot Herbie paid $8.20 to win. He is an eight-year-old gelding by Here Comes Herbie and recorded his fifth win of the season for owner and trainer Natasha Day of Beachville, Ont. His career record moved to 25-20-25 in 155 starts with $219,580 in earnings.
