The majority of the betting public didn’t give In High Cotton much support in Monday’s main event at Fraser Downs, but those that took a shine to the mare were handsomely rewarded.
In High Cotton pulled off a 21-1 stunner in the $10,000 Fillies & Mares Open for the tandem of driver Dave Hudon and trainer Kelly Hoerdt, and for some handicappers it was an early Christmas gift.
Hudon got away fourth with the longshot while Century Mach and race favourite Miss Itunes battled to the quarter pole in :26.3. Century Mach led the group through middle panels of :57.3 and 1:25.4, but she couldn’t fend off her stablemate and others in the lane. In High Cotton kicked it into high gear late and used a closing quarter of :28 to win by a length over Moosette in 1:54.1. Miss Itunes was third.
