Wearing down her rivals in the stretch drive, Filly Forty Seven was first to the wire in the featured $2,500 Fillies and Mares Open on Sunday afternoon (Nov. 29) at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
Marc Campbell drove his trainee Filly Forty Seven, who advanced first-over on Woodmere Skyroller (David Dowling) and prevailed in 1:57.4. Woodmere Skyroller was second while Temagami Seelster (Kenny Arsenault) finished third. A six-year-old daughter of Proven Lover, Filly Forty Seven is owned by Darryl MacLean, Cory Carver, Katelyn Smallwood and Alan MacDonald.
Dowling celebrated a driving triple on the program, including a pair of wins for the Earl Watts barn.
Dowling landed on the wire with his own Slide Guitar in race three in a dead heat for win with Rockstar Drums (Gordie Hennessey) in 2:01.3. Then, Dowling took the fourth with Watts trainee Windemere Albert in 2:01.1 for Watts before Howmac Missy circled up to win the seventh in 2:01.1.
Smart Official remained red hot in the afternoon finale. The Peter Lanigan trainee won his second straight with Gilles Barrieau in the bike, this time in 1:59.1. The son of Art Official has four wins and a second-place finish in his last five starts.
Barrieau also celebrated three victories on the day, having visited the historic winner’s circle with Collective Wisdom (1:59.2) for trainer Chad Taylor and Here Comes Red (1:59.1) from the Wade Sorrie stable.
