Jody Jamieson and trainer Marty Fine joined forces to pull off an 11-1 upset with The Platinum Guy in Monday’s lone $20,000 Autumn Stakes elimination for two-year-old pacing colts and geldings at Woodbine
Racetrack.
The Platinum Guy found himself in an early tussle for the lead before giving way and accepting a pocket trip behind pacesetter Tribute To Gear. He sliced out opening splits of :26 and :55.4 before giving way to a backstretch brushing Royal Will. That colt took over command and immediately came under pressure from The Platinum Guy, who pressed the pace to the three-quarter pole in 1;24.4. The Platinum Guy then used a :27.3 final quarter to hold off the eventual runner-up, Tribute To Gear, in a career-best clocking of 1:52.4. Race favourite Royal Will faded to finish third.
Marty Fine shares ownership on the rookie with Dan Clements, Norm Clements and Gary McCready. The Uxbridge, ON quartet watched the youngster win for the second time in 10 tries while bumping his bankroll to $22,835.
