According to reports, thoroughbred horsemen in Maryland could be on the cusp of securing a 10-year race date pact with the raceway in the state.

The Baltimore Sun has reported that a deal with the Maryland Jockey Club could be announced by the end of this week.

The article states that the Stronach Group, which is the parent of the MJC, has offered 146 live race dates for 2013, while 100 days would be guaranteed each subsequent year. The report also states that horsemen would have the option to buy additional race dates beyond the 100 allotted annually.

"We're trying for a plan that is going to benefit all involved and encourage people to invest in Maryland horse racing," MJC President Tom Chuckas was quoted as saying. "That being said, we can't continue to lose money and operate as a business."
