Stuck with post nine, the Ron Burke-trained Fred And Ginger overcame it by getting away fourth, then launching a determined uncovered bid that carried him to victory in Tuesday’s $20,000 Preferred Handicap Pace at The Meadows.
When Brett Miller moved Fred And Ginger down the backside, the five-year-old son of Real Artist-Graceful Motion engaged his stablemate, Itrustyou, on the front. The pair drew off from the field, with Fred And Ginger prevailing by a half-length margin in 1:51.4. J J Gladiator finished third.
Fred And Ginger extended his career bankroll to $836,369 for owners Howard Taylor, Robert Feldman, Edwin Gold and Jerry Silva.
It was one of five victories on the 15-race card for Burke. Dave Palone drove four winners while Eric Ledford and Brett Miller each fashioned a triple. Miller’s haul raised his career victory total to 5,996.
