A set of claiming horses continued on their winning ways Thursday at Woodbine Mohawk Park with Mister Magic manhandling the trotting foes he faced while A Boy Named Suuzz swept by the pacing rivals he sparred with.
Mister Magic nabbed his 12th win of the season while pushing his winning streak to three-in-a-row thanks to his 1:56.3 triumph versus claiming company.
Jonathan Drury hustled the gelding to the lead at the half, and once they cleared it was game over for the others. Mister Magic wound up drawing clear to win by 7-1/2 lengths over Zeus Lightning in the $11,000 trotting tilt.
Sent off as the 1-5 favourite, the Carmen Auciello trainee improved his 2020 record to 12-2-1 from 25 starts with the win. Wheelhouse Racing Stable of Kitchener, Ont. owns the 22-time winner who now boasts a bankroll that stands at $216,618.
A Boy Named Suuzz pushed his winning streak to four-in-a-row thanks to his come-from-behind tally versus claiming pacers.
In rein to Louis Philippe Roy, the nine-year-old son of Mr Saratoga-Proxahantis got away ninth and held that position through fractions of :27.1, :55.2 and 1:23.4. Roy started up the engine on the veteran as the field arrived at the head of the lane, and A Boy Named Suuzz used a :28.1 closing frame to win by 1-1/4 lengths over P L Idaho in 1:53.3.
Corey Johnson trains the pacer for owner Francois Morin of Beauceville, QC. The victory improved this year’s record to 6-1-1 from 26 starts. The $7,000 payday bumped his bankroll to $311,137.
