Girl Scout Cookie prevailed from the pocket for driver Austin Sorrie and took a new lifetime mark in the $46,000 final of the Harvest Series for Ontario-sired three-year-old pacing fillies on Friday night (Nov. 25) at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
The four inside starters competed for early position off the gate and were two-by-two before settling single file in post position order through the first turn with Sorrie tucking even-money favourite Girl Scout Cookie in the pocket behind Queen Of Soul (Jody Jamieson). The popular Joe Pereira trainee tracked the leader through fractions of :29.2, :58.1 and 1:26.1 before slipping out and taking over command in the stretch to win in 1:54.1 by one length while Baby Bonita (Sylvain Filion) desperately searched for racing room and eventually split through late to finish second over Queen Of Soul.
A round two winner last week, Girl Scout Cookie knocked one full second off her lifetime mark in the series final. The State Treasurer-Xanthi Bayama filly earned her third victory of the season from 27 starts and raised her annual income to $68,004 while her lifetime earnings climbed over the $100,000 mark for owners William Johnstone and William Gillan of Thorold, Ont.
Girl Scout Cookie paid $4.30 to win.
The series was for non-winners of $30,000 in 2022 as of Sept. 30.
A pair of $15,000 second leg divisions of a Pop-Up Series for pacing fillies and mares went to repeat winner Bad Rossa ($2.90) in a career-best 1:53.1 for driver Travis Cullen and trainer Jodie Cullen, and Casimir Swamp Girl ($5.20), who succeeded in her series debut in 1:53.4 with Trevor Henry driving for conditioner Kyle Bossence. The series is for non-winners of $35,000 in 2022 or not averaging $1,250 per start in a minium of 10 starts in 2022.
