It has been reported that the public hearing that had been scheduled to discuss the closure of Balmoral Park and the possibility of the track potentially re-opening has been cancelled.
News of the cancellation comes courtesy of a report by the Chicago Tribune which cites Balmoral’s general manager, Mike Belmonte, as saying that the track was not informed about the meeting in advance.
The article explains that a House committee had set the hearing on the bill that was recently sponsored by Rep. Thaddeus Jones, whose district includes the racetrack.
The bill that Jones sponsored calls for the Balmoral Park and Maywood Park to remain open in 2016 in hopes that a potential buyer can be sought in order for the tracks to be saved.
