Manitoba Judge Rules Against MJC

A Court of Queen's Bench judge in Manitoba has dismissed a push by the Manitoba Jockey Club to have former Finance Minister Stan Struthers and Healthy Living Minister Jim Rondeau removed from office.

As an article by the Winnipeg Free Press explains, MJC made the move due to province’s handling of Assiniboia Downs.

The report states that Justice Perry Schulman concluded that the MJC’s position was without merit. Jeff Rath, the lawyer representing the MJC, has said that his client is considering an appeal.

The MJC was arguing that Struthers and Rondeau violated the Legislative Assembly and Executive Council Conflict of Interest Act.

As part of his ruling, Justice Schulman wrote that the court has examined the evidence and that the MJC has failed to establish that either Struthers or Rondeau violated section 18(1) of the Act.
